Chapter 9 Reading Product Solutions — From What Your Plan Needs to Kinds of Products

The question Our plan needs a certain return and some cash set aside. What kinds of products speak to that — and where does each one stop?

The answer The Product solutions menu starts from what your plan asks for, not from products. It lists the plan's needs (a required return, cash set aside, a fall you can live with, spending without borrowing, lifetime income, health and care after 65), draws lines to the types of products usually discussed for each, and for each type says what it does for the plan, where it stops, and what the public numbers say — dated and sourced. It shows no product names to buy, no rankings and no recommendations.

9.0 In one line Needs first, types second, products never. Every public number has a date and a source.

The full chapter is in the book. The web shows only each chapter's question, answer and one-line summary.
