About the Author — Jason Lee

Jason Lee is a Korean portfolio manager with more than twenty years in asset management. He writes this book and the AI Retirement Investing and AI Family Investing series under the pen name Jason Lee. Some institutions are shown as "OO" for professional reasons.

His career began in IT. In 2003 he joined a Korean asset management company as a developer and rebuilt its investment management and fund accounting systems — an environment where trade records and holdings could not be off by a single day. From 2007 he moved to quantitative analysis at the same company and spent about ten years building quantitative strategies and risk systems, including the investment process and asset-liability management framework for an outsourced CIO mandate for a government ministry's fund. Documenting the reasons for decisions for an investment committee was routine, and this series' habit of writing the rules first comes from there.

In 2017 he returned to study, earning a master's degree in financial engineering at KAIST, with a semester as an exchange student at the McCombs School of Business, the University of Texas at Austin. From 2019 to 2021 he built factor and machine-learning asset allocation models at a Korean asset management company, and from 2021 to 2026 he led asset allocation research and asset-liability management at an institution with more than 2 trillion won in assets — Monte Carlo simulation, shortfall analysis and risk limits based on volatility forecasts.
